About this service
Ninety minutes in an Ottoman-era hammam in the Old City: time on the warm marble, a kese scrub and foam wash by an attendant, then tea in the cooling room.
A hammam is less a spa than a sequence, and it helps to know it before you go. You change into a peştemal, the cotton wrap, and lie on the heated marble platform under the dome until you are properly warm. An attendant then scrubs you with a kese mitt, which takes off more than you would expect, and washes you under a cloud of soap foam. Afterwards you rest in the cooling room with a glass of tea. Men and women have separate sections, and attendants are the same sex as the guest.
